The concept for my poster design revolves around the essence of the St. Johns River, blending abstract, cubist elements inspired by iconic artists such as Picasso, Braque, Klee, and Harper. From the river's fluid lines emerge representations of Jacksonville's diverse river wildlife - birds, gators, dolphins, and more. These shapes seamlessly integrate with the river, symbolizing the interconnectedness of nature and its "harmonious collaboration."
Adding a unique twist, several jazz musicians organically evolve from the river's form, as well. They blend seamlessly with the abstract river shapes, embodying the idea that, just as elements of nature play together in harmony, so do jazz musicians.
For this particular year, to bridge the past and present, the design gives a nod to the old Metropolitan Park venue while introducing the new Daily's Place venue. This dual representation emphasizes the evolving cultural landscape of Jacksonville, subtly celebrating its rich history while embracing its contemporary spirit.
The overall aesthetic strikes a balance between bold, graphic elements and natural, organic forms. The fusion of these ideas with a vibrant color palette creates a visually striking design that exudes a sense of balance, cooperation, and dynamic energy, capturing the lively spirit of both jazz music and the river's ecosystem.
